Equality and Diversity

The ARI aims to be a friendly, safe and welcoming environment for all students, visitors and staff, regardless of their level of experience, gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, disability, mental health status, personal appearance, body size, race, ethnicity, age, religion, nationality, marriage and civil partnership status, pregnancy or parental/carer status, or other similar characteristics. We are proud of our diversity and believe that everyone must be treated with respect.

The ARI adheres to a core hours policy of 10am to 4pm and meetings should not be scheduled outside of these hours. We also encourage staff to consult LJMU's Equality, Diversity and Inclusion pages.

We have recently been awarded the Juno Practitioner status where we have demonstrated that as a department we provide a ‘robust organisational framework to deliver equality of opportunity and reward’. LJMU holds an Athena Swan Bronze award. We are also working on a departmental Athena Swan Bronze application to officially recognise that in addition to LJMU-wide policies, our department is working to ‘promote gender equality and to identify and address challenges particular to the department and discipline’.
