  • Exceptional Research Excellence Framework (REF) results

Research at the Astrophysics Research Institute has performed exceptionally well at the highest international level in the latest survey of research quality in UK universities.

The results of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) confirmed that more than 85% of the ARI’s research outputs are world-leading or internationally excellent. In terms of just world-leading research within Physics, the ARI’s astrophysics research was ranked 3rd amongst North West universities and 1st amongst the UK Alliance Universities.

More than 86% of the ARI’s Research Impact was either `outstanding’ or had `very considerable impact’ in the same REF assessment. This underlines the significant benefits of our research to society and the UK economy through projects such as the National School’s Observatory, the astronomy visitors centre Spaceport and partnership with local industry.
