The 2020 round of Ernest Rutherford Fellowships has been announced by the Science and Technology Research Council (STFC), see: http://www.stfc.ac.uk/funding/fellowships/ernest-rutherford-fellowship/.
These are fully funded five-year research fellowships to be held in science areas supported by STFC. If you are interested in applying for one of these to be hosted by the Astrophysics Research Institute (ARI) at Liverpool John Moores University you can find more details about our research at: http://www.astro.ljmu.ac.uk/research
The STFC deadline for ER Fellowships is 17 September 2020, but to conform with necessary processes, candidates must submit their applications to the ARI by Friday 7th August 2020. We encourage excellent potential applicants to contact the ARI as soon as possible for informal discussions. STFC limit the number of candidates that each institute can put forward (ARI has 3), which means that we need to have a round of internal selection. We intend to make a final decision on which applications we will support no later than Fri. 14th August 2020.
If you wish to apply please send: i) a 1-page draft research proposal following STFC’s guidelines for ER Fellowships; ii) a CV and list of publications; and iii) a 0.5 page host institution statement (e.g., describing complementarity to ARI research), to: Ian McCarthy (Head of Research) by Friday 7th August 2020.
Additionally, the deadline for the Royal Society University Research Fellowship is 3rd September 2020. These are also prestigious fully funded five (+3) year fellowships. See https://royalsociety.org/grants-schemes-awards/grants/university-research/
While there are no official quotas, please contact Ian McCarthy at the ARI if you are interested in applying, no later than 7th August, 2020 (i.e. the same date as the Rutherford pre-applications).
