Absolute AB magnitudes

The zero point of the AB apparent magnitude scale is 3631 Jy. To convert this to the absolute magnitude zero point, multiply by $4\pi r^2$ where r is the standard distance of 10 pc. The zero point is then $4.345 \times 10^{13}\: {\rm W}\: {\rm Hz}^{-1}$, or

\begin{displaymath}M_{\rm AB} = -2.5 \log S_{\nu} + 34.1 \: ,
\end{displaymath} (5)

where $S_{\nu}$ is the luminosity measured in ${\rm W}\: {\rm Hz}^{-1}$.
