Tracking of Coronavirus / Covid-19 in England / UK

Coronavirus in the UK dashboard [Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), Public Health England (PHE)]
This page includes the visualisation and data for Pillar 1 (hospital) and Pillar 2 (community) active-Covid testing in the UK, as well as hospital admissions and deaths. Pillar 2 was included from July 2020. The March/April 2020 peak only includes Covid cases from Pillar 1 (hospital testing). Pillar 1+2 is still an underestimate of the true number of infections because not everyone gets tested, for example, because some people have no obvious symptoms.

Coronavirus Infection Survey [Office for National Statistics (ONS)]
This study obtains active-Covid swab tests from a large sample of households regardless of whether people have reported symptoms. This is a sampling strategy for the community and thus can be used to estimate the true number of infections in regions across the UK.

Covid Symptom Study [Zoe, King's College London]
This study uses over 4 million app users who report their illness symptoms including the common and not-so-common Covid symptoms. From these data, supplemented by swab tests, they predict the fraction of people who have Covid in areas around the UK. They also have a research blog on the symptom study results as well as the number of cases.

Real-time Assessment of Community Transmission (REACT) [Imperial College London]
This study obtains active-Covid swab tests for a random sample of people registered with the NHS. Similar to the above survey, it can be used to estimate the true number of infections in areas across England. This is known as the REACT-1 survey. There is also a REACT-2 survey using antibody tests, i.e., it is sensitive to past infections that still show detectable antibodies.

UKHSA Weekly National Surveillance Reports
These reports combine various sources of data for Covid and other infectious diseases. For example, they also include statistics from Google searches and NHS 111 calls, in addition to Pillar 1 and 2 testing and sampling surveys.
