Supersharp images from new adaptive optics system
The Very Large Telescope, Europe's flagship optical observatory, has recently been equipped with a new adaptive optics system. It allows astronomers to take images with a sharpness that is not even achieved by the Hubble space telescope.
ARI scientist Sebastian Kamann was involved in the first observations performed with the new system. He aims to use it to study the motions of stars in the centres of star clusters in unprecedented detail.
